Theme:              Now, more than ever: Reconciliation Action Plans

A Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) helps change systems and contribute to the community of Australians who are engaged and supportive of First Nations people and reconciliation. RAPs were first introduced in 2006. In 2023, just over 5.4 million Australians worked or studied in an organisation which had a Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP). The PHA NSW/ACT has organised this event to assist professional historians and related organisations to develop RAPs.

We have invited representatives from three organisations working in the history and heritage field to talk about the process of developing their RAP, what it has achieved, what they have learnt, and how historians have contributed to the RAP.

There will be a brief time for discussion amongst the speakers and Q&A from the floor at the end of the presentations.

Date:  Monday 27 May 2024

Time:    6-7pm

Venue: Now online only. A link to the webinar will be emailed to you three days before the event.

Cost:    $10 per person.

The PHA will donate any profits to Reconciliation Australia.

Speakers:

Royal Australian Historical Society – Peter Hobbins

Dr Peter Hobbins led the RAHS to develop its first ‘Reflect’ RAP in 2023. Founded in Sydney in 1901, the RAHS is Australia’s oldest historical organisation. It promotes the study of Australian history by organising events, producing publications and providing research advice and support to its membership network of individuals and local historical societies, with a particular focus on New South Wales local and community history.

GML Heritage – Sharon Veale

Sharon Veale is the CEO of GML Heritage, an interdisciplinary heritage consultancy that has been supporting communities and clients to plan, manage, conserve and interpret heritage for over 30 years. GML has long been committed to developing a deeper understanding and appreciation of First Nations cultures, histories and heritage learning from First Nations communities. In May 2023, GML launched its first ‘Reflect’ RAP and is currently in the process of finalising their second RAP.

Museums & Galleries of NSW – Brett Adlington

Brett Adlington has been the CEO of M&GNSW since March 2021. M&GNSW supports museums, galleries, and Aboriginal cultural centres across NSW by developing skills, connections, funding and touring exhibitions. In January 2024, they launched their third RAP, and their second ‘Innovate RAP’.
